Donations in kind and in £

Behind the Mask has been researched, designed, developed and launched by Julie Knight in her own time and at her own expense. This equates to several thousands of hours.

Behind the Mask requires a lot of maintenance on a daily basis to keep up with the hundreds of messages that we receive each day. Julie’s husband Antony and daughter Shan help to respond to messages too. Shannon has officially come on board and gifts her time to help to run the campaign. As a Web Designer, Antony gifted his time to create and maintain our website and helped Julie to format and launch the training videos.

Behind the Mask is very truly grateful for the kind donation from Events By Always Bonita Beauty that ran on International Women’s day on the 8th March 2020 in Cardiff in the U.K. They kindly raised an amazing £700 that was gifted to Behind the Mask to help us to improve our service. We will use this space to show how we have invested this kind gift.

How we used these funds

We wanted to automate the course to provide a better service to participants so they can automatically receive their certificate and support materials at the end of their course. For this to operate, participants need to create an account so we need personal data (name and email address). We therefore needed an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate for our Website. This is a type of digital certificate that provides authentication for a website and enables an encrypted connection. These certificates make an http website into an https one to ensure that data passed between the two parties remains private and secure. We purchased a 2 year SSL certificate on the 31st March 2020 for £70.57

During the Covid-19 lockdown from the 23rd March 2020, the demand for access to our free online training hosted on our website, far exceeded its ability to service them. This resulted in several thousand emails and social media messages complaining about not being able to take the course. We increased our websites hosting package on the 11th May 2020 to facilitate greater access at the same time. This is valid for 3 years at a cost of £1054.90. We used £629.43 of the remaining funds and the rest being £425.47 gifted by Julie Knight to make this happen.

Their aim is that you can attended the events and feel included within the day, regardless if you are attending solo, as a group or with friends. With events held in the heart of Cardiff, they are easily accessible, numbers are kept at no more than 65 people to allow a comfortable and engaging setting.
